She was a designer, singer and performer and broke barriers in the industry of music. She was at once contemporary and traditional a Mexican-American singer who brought together the two genres with a unique approach. She also provided excellent Tejano music to a mainstream crowd. Her tragic death cut a hole in her rising profile and like many times the moment a brilliant, warm star dies far too young left many to mourn every potential that was not fully realized. The result is that fans have been inspired over time to dig to work even more to make sure her accomplishments are not forgotten. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena caused a resurgence in the Latino community that could be thought of as similar to the responses to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Selena was a wildly popular Latino artist across North America. Her music transcended boundaries and touched the hearts of younger and more mature adults. Selena might have been described by some as a Latina Madonna, but she's still an excellent character model. Selena's family values off stage as well as her involvement with AIDS awareness programs are exemplary.
